The Salafist Outlook is one of the 5 Outlooks in Millennium Dawn.

Salafism is an ultraconservative, intolerant, fundamentalist offshoot of mainstream Sunni Islam. It has grown in prominence as the Wahabi Gulf Monarchies provided billions in funding for its teachings since the mid-20th century. Salafism has seen particularly violent incarnations in the Taliban, Al-Qaeda, and ISIS. They seek to conquer all Islamic lands and rule them through their harsh interpretation of Islamic Law. They do not recognize other forms of Islam nor minority religions, and will stop at nothing to achieve their goals.

Sub-Ideologies:[]

Pro-Establishment Salafism:[]

Certain strains of Salafi thought, such as Wahhabism and Madkhalism, advocate the preservation of the status quo over radical revolution and armed jihad, like with Saudi Arabia. These Salafis share the fundamentalist and intolerant views of Qutbian jihadists, but generally reject violence and support existing governments. Their compliance makes them popular with authoritarian Arab states fearful of the threat that more political strands of Islamism pose to their power.

Salafi Jihadism:[]

Jihadists seek to tear down and destroy the governments of the Islamic world, which they see as heathen and heretical. Salafist Jihadism refers to an ultra-strict. ultraconservative and fundamentalist offshoot of Islamic political ideology, inspired by the teachings of Sayyid Qutb. They seek to conquer all Islamic lands and rule them through their harsh interpretation of Islamic law. They do not recognize other forms of Islam nor minority religions, and will stop at nothing to achieve their goals, and seek to spread their version of Islam by gunpoint. Only Te Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan starts as a jihadist state, but others such as ISIS and AL-Qaeda can rise up over time.

Notes[]

Only Islamic Countries can turn to the Salafist Outlook, mostly being Sunni countries. Non-islamic nations cannot support the Salafist outlook through the focus tree and religious national spirits disperse any Salafist support. it is also harder for Salafists to take power in Sufi, Ibadi, and Shia countries due to religious buffs negatively impacting Salafism support.
